5 great reasons to travel the world

Some people say traveling is a luxury; others say it is a necessity. For me, travel is a necessary luxury. Whether you travel for business, a vacation after a long year of work or because you love to explore the world, traveling is a wonderful way to enrich your life. Here are some of what I believe are the best reasons for travel:

A leap into the unknown - Mankind has been fascinated by the unknown throughout time. History is full of explorations, adventures, and discoveries. Did you know that new experiences can create new neural pathways? As the human race grew and extended throughout the world, so did their minds expand and grow to grasp new concepts, places, and languages. So, as you set out to see the unknown, not only are you continuing the journeys of your ancestors, but you also expand your mind and horizons. In the words of French author André Gide: “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”

A pause from routine: Sometimes, our day-to-day life does not leave any room for innovation or even motivation. The day repeats itself and soon that spark of life can become a little dimmer. Traveling requires us to approach every day with a new perspective and a diverse set of skills. It sparks our creativity and breaks that routine, inspiring us to think and act differently, bringing a new excitement to life. Imagine finding your north with a blanket of stars above you or climbing up a snowy peak. Inspired yet?

New languages – whether you know the language of the place you travel to or not, learning a few words to get around an unfamiliar country is essential. And the many ways in which one word can mean a thousand different things is fascinating. It is satisfying to see a local’s face light up with a smile when you greet or thank them in their own language. Language can change your understanding of a culture and its people and open up your perspective. Non è bello?

Local delicacies – If you love to try new foods as much as I do, then travel will become a celebration for your taste buds! Food is the heart and soul of any culture, and the way people prepare food and share a meal can provide you with a profound insight into their lives and desires. There is nothing better than the aroma of something delicious wafting through a colorful market on a summer breeze…so dare to feed your body and your adventurous spirit!

Building relationships – It is a true joy to make new friends while on an adventure and even get to know those closest to you in a whole new way. You never know what role someone will play in your life and how they will either challenge or change it. If you remain open to what they can teach you about yourself, their country and culture you might experience the beauty of true kindness and learn to appreciate the uniqueness of all those you connect with. So be courageous and share your adventure with others.
