My Journey to Sustainable Travel and the Creation of an Eco-Friendly Travel Kit
Why do I love to travel?
I’ve always loved to travel. From a young age, this passion has been a defining part of my life. It wasn't just about visiting new places but about the joy of exploring and understanding the world. When I was younger, I was deeply curious and inquisitive about the world. I devoured books on nature, history, world cultures, traditions, religions, and how people lived their daily lives. My curiosity extended beyond mere facts about cultures; I wanted to know how did people navigate their environments? What were their routines and practices? This curiosity ignited a strong desire to travel and experience these cultures firsthand. I wanted to visit the places I read about and immerse myself in their way of life. This aspiration wasn’t just about personal fulfillment; it was also about gaining a deeper understanding of our planet and its diverse inhabitants.

Where do I love to travel?
I love traveling to destinations that blend nature and urban life. Exploring bustling cities like Toronto and London, with their vibrant culture, diverse cuisine, and historic landmarks, is exhilarating. Seeing how people live in cities and experiencing life from their perspective fascinates me. At the same time, I cherish escaping to natural retreats, like the Andean Mountain range, the lush Amazon rainforests, the serene Caribbean beaches, and the breathtaking Danube River. Whether it's hiking in Peru, strolling through Washington State's coastal trails, or relaxing in Central Park, nature provides a perfect balance to city life.

During my 3-year backpacking trip through South America, I lived in each country for a few months to experience daily life. I found joy in engaging with local communities, exploring markets, and participating in events. Supporting local businesses and artisans became important to me, as it contributed to the local economy. I always stayed in family-owned hostels and sought out local guides. Making friends everywhere, they showed me their towns, villages, and cities from their perspectives. These personal connections and friendships revealed the true beauty of their homes and surroundings, something I could not have experienced on my own.
What are the challenges I encountered?
Getting organized for travel has always been a personal challenge for me. Despite my love for exploration, the process of packing and preparing often felt overwhelming. I would carefully plan my trips, making lists of essentials, yet somehow, I always managed to forget something important behind.
Whether it was a phone charger, a favorite book, or even toiletries, there was always that one item I realized I had left behind only after reaching my destination. This constant forgetfulness led to moments of frustration and quick trips to local stores to replace the forgotten items. And more often than not, the essentials I had to replace were made of plastic or other toxic materials.

In an effort to overcome these challenges, I developed a more structured approach to packing. I started creating comprehensive checklists and double-checking my luggage before leaving home. Despite my best efforts, the occasional forgotten item would still slip through the cracks, reminding me that travel organization is an ongoing process of learning and adapting.
During my travels, as I connected with locals who took me through their villages, towns and cities, I also began noticing the extensive trash and plastic waste generated by other travelers, including myself. A friend I made in Peru said that it takes her and the other guides days sometimes to pick up after tourists leave and that they had to create regulations for fining travelers who left trash behind. This was a red flag for me. It became an increasingly common thing to see, and I found myself feeling angry and frustrated. I loved exploring the world, but no landscape remained untouched. Not to mention urban areas in many cities I passed through. This problem kept me up at night. I kept thinking, what can I do to make this better? What can I change? It became clear that the disposable toiletries and single-use items were contributing significantly to the problem. This realization spurred me to find sustainable travel essentials and toiletries that would reduce my environmental impact. Seeing the piles of non-recyclable waste in beautiful natural landscapes and bustling cities alike made it evident that change was necessary.
Identifying the Problem
Recognizing the environmental issues caused by disposable travel products, I identified a clear problem that needed addressing. The excessive waste generated by these items was not only detrimental to the environment but also unsustainable in the long run. I realized that travelers, including myself, needed practical, eco-friendly alternatives that would reduce our environmental footprint. This experience played a significant role in inspiring the creation of my eco-friendly travel kit. I wanted to design a practical solution that not only addressed sustainability but also helped travelers stay organized and avoid the pitfalls of forgetfulness.
Vision for a Solution
Armed with my observations and understanding of the problem, I envisioned a travel pack filled with eco-friendly, biodegradable products. The goal was to simplify travel while promoting sustainability. This vision led to the creation of the LiteNLife Travel Kit, designed to meet the essential needs of travelers in an environmentally responsible way. By collaborating with eco-friendly businesses and ensuring high standards for sustainability, I developed a practical solution that aligns with my values and commitment to sustainable travel.

This is how I transformed my curiosity, passion for travel, and desire to change the world in my own way into a meaningful endeavor that promotes responsible and sustainable practices. Each step was informed by logical and practical considerations, leading to the creation of a travel kit that benefits both travelers and the planet.
